Mangrove Reforestation Activity to Preserve Coastal Ecosystems, 2024.
On June 21st, 2024, Taisho Pharmaceutical (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Osotspa Taisho Co., Ltd. operated the annual Reforestation Activity as Y2024 Corporate Social Responsibility Project at the Museum of Natural History of Islands and the Thai Sea in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province. The mangrove reforestation project, under the supervision of the Naval Special Warfare Command (NSWC) of the Royal Thai Navy, is challenged project because it plants in a rough environment with hard surfaces, rocks, limited nutrients, strong waves, and fluctuating sea levels, which make it difficult for mangrove trees to thrive.
Commander Supawut Chuchartcharoenphon, the project supervisor, pioneered a new planting method in Thailand. This technique involves embedding asbestos pipes into the rocky seabed, planting mangrove trees inside the pipes with a layer of fertilizer at the base, and covering the roots with gravel to protect the trees from being uprooted by waves during high tides. This innovative approach significantly improves the chances of sustainable growth for the mangrove trees.
